Laura Mitsu

Laura Mitsu is an Oakland-based artist whose expressive abstract paintings explore the themes of emotion, connection, and transformation. Poetry written by the artist often accompanies her artwork; each painting inspires a unique poem that captures the essence of the moment and the artist’s internal dialogue. This poetry adds another dimension of openness and vulnerability to the conversation between the painting, the artist, and the viewer.

A self-taught artist, Mitsu's journey began in the culinary arts, where she honed her craft as a line cook and sous chef in Southern CA and NYC for almost a decade. Her passion for creating with her hands fueled her transition into the visual arts, becoming a full-time painter in 2022. In her studio, Mitsu uses curiosity, experimentation, and intuition as guides throughout her creative process, infusing her paintings with wonder and spontaneity.

Mitsu's work resides in private collections across the US and Canada. Her abstract paintings have been featured in several editions of House & Garden UK Magazine in the fall of 2022. Her work has been displayed in juried shows in the Bay Area, CA, and online. Mitsu’s debut solo exhibition, Poetic Abstraction, will be held at 2358MRKT Gallery in San Francisco throughout April 2024.
