Mistral 26

$500.00

Acrylic on birch panel in MDF
10 x 10 x .75 in.

The Mistral series draws inspiration from the cold waters of Ladys Cove (Marblehead, Massachusetts) at low tide. Amongst the abstract splotches hides a single representational element, a tiny lady crab (Ovalipes ocellatus) smaller than the nail on a pinky finger. The paintings explore ideas of personal perspective, indifference, and our place in a broader world.

Mistral 26 features various brush techniques, most prominently blown acrylic. Varying the viscosity of the paint allows me to render splotches of different sizes and shapes. Thick, transparent isolation coats alternate with paint layers of varying translucence creating visual and physical depth.

A circular frame completes the piece. It is painted only after the tondo is finalised to ensure harmony of color and composition between the two components. Alternating layers of isolation coat and paint varying translucence creating visual and physical depth. The surface of the painting is highly glossy, the result of meticulous varnish.
